The Storm have been on a three-game skid after blowing out the Connecticut Sun. Losses around the league are rarely equal but when it comes to Seattle, they have been very consistent in the way games have gotten away from them.
Some of the issues are a bit of a surprise when you look at what they do well. Gabby Williams leads the league in steals per game and has already set the franchise record for a single season with 14 Games to go. Eze is second in the league for blocks per game. Both of these are hustle plays that require high effort and drive. This same unit is one of the worst rebounding teams in the league. They struggle regardless of the team they play on any given night. This shows that it’s a mindset and not simply being boxed out by the league leading Lynx on Tuesday night.
Dom is getting comfortable in the rotation becoming very efficient in maximizing her impact in respect to the limited time on the court. When asking Coach Quinn what is keeping her from breaking the twenty minutes per game mark, she said “her conditioning has to be a little bit better.” This is something they hope comes along quickly to help them keep pace with points in the paint.
Skylar and Nneka are still the heart and soul of this team. However the front office saw they could provide them with some needed help off the bench by making a trade for Washington Mystics Brittany Sykes. Sykes who averages 15 points per game will contribute on offense. Bench points have been inconsistent in 2025. She also brings the energy of a four-time All-WNBA Defensive team player to one of the best defensive teams in the league. This move came at a cost. They sent three-time WNBA Champion Alysha Clark and Zia Cooke to the Mystics. They also included their 2026 first round pick. Brittany joined the team yesterday and will only get two practices before the team heads to Las Vegas to take on the Aces.
The playoff race is tight, and this move could provide the spark Seattle needs to get back in the win column to solidify their position in the standings. If they can protect the glass, especially improving on the offensive boards. This paired with better consistency in the paint. It may be the piece they’ve been missing through the middle of the season.
