The Seattle Kraken are among the best at shutting down the scoring from opponents sitting second only behind the league leading Avalanche allowing 2.55 just goals per game. The speed on the ice and the goaltending makes the Kraken extremely tough for the rest of the league to put the puck in the net.
Tonight the Dallas Stars come to town and although their sitting just eighth in goals allowed it is their offense the will be the key for them averaging 3.39 goals per game which has them sitting fifth in that category and second with power play percentage.
Seattle will have their plate full against a Stars team that was in the championship series last season and picking up where they left off. With tomorrow being Thanksgiving Climate Pledge Arena is about to be rocking as the loudest fans in the league look to help propel the Kraken past the stars and kick the holiday weekend off right in the Pacific Northwest.
Game Notes:
Dallas kicks it off with a double minor penalty for high sticking giving the Kraken a 4-minute power play. Dallas was able to fend off the attack only allowing two shots on goal during the power play. Dallas takes the lead seconds after getting off the penalty in their second shot on goal 5:52 into the game by number 24 Roope Hintz.
Seattle responds with a goal of their own by number 62 Brandon Montour, his fifth of the year right at the halfway point of the first period.
Seattle's number 29 Vince Dunn gets two minutes for tripping with a minute to go in the first period. They (Kraken) finish out the first period tied one to one. There's been a balanced attack in the first twenty minutes with shots on goal at eight to nine for Dallas and Seattle respectively.
2nd Period
The second period starts with Seattle down a man for the first minute as they serve the second half of the tripping penalty from the first period.
Dallas crowds the goal to score their second goal with 13:47 to go in the second by number 23 Esa Lindell. The Stars get a penalty for withholding a Kraken stick by number 14Jamie Benn as he continued to skate with two sticks in his hands with 8:50 played.
Seattle fails to create any offence during that power play spending most of those two minutes with Dallas in control of the puck on the Kraken side of the ice
Holding penalties issued to both teams and each given two minutes. Number 24 Roope Hintz for Dallas and 29 Vince Dunn as the Kraken continue to trail 2 to 1with just over a minute left in the second.
3rd Period
The 3rd period gets off to a quick start as the Kraken score in the first :18 seconds by number 29 Vince Dunn his fourth of the season to tie the game up at two.
The Stars get a penalty for too many men on the ice; the infraction has number 11 Nathan Bastian serving the 2 minutes in the box. Seattle has not been able to take advantage of the 10 minutes that they have had the advantage with both of their scores coming outside of power plays
Nearing the halfway point of the third quarter knotted up at two a piece you look at the fact that the Kraken have gone to over time in ten of their first 22 games this season. Here at the ten minute mark the Stars have 20 shots on goal to the Krakens 22 making this look all too familiar to the way Seattle have played so far this season. Over time does have a strategic advantage with the winner still getting two points but the team that comes up short still gets a point where a loss in regulation get nothing.
Dallas breaks up the tie with 5:44 to go ringing the puck off the iron by number 44 Vladislav Kolyachonok his first of the season.
Number 28 gets two minutes for tripping with 3:35 to go. Seattle again couldn't take advantage of the power play. The Kraken pull the goalie in the final minute and a half but come up short and finishing 3 to 2
Battling all night these two playoff caliber teams were very physical but as Coach Lane Lambert said after the game "it is a game of inches and we came up on the wrong side tonight".
The Kraken get right back to the action on Saturday Nov 29th against the Oilers right back here a Climate Pledge Arena.
