Seattle Kraken Add Former Canucks GM Patrik Allvin to Hockey Operations Staff

The Seattle Kraken continued reshaping their hockey operations department Thursday, adding one of the NHL's most experienced executives to the organization.

General Manager Jason Botterill announced that former Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin has joined the club as Vice President and Assistant General Manager. Seattle also added Pascal Vincent as an assistant coach after his successful run behind the bench of the AHL's Laval Rocket.

For Botterill, the addition of Allvin is more than just another front-office hire. It's the reunion of two executives who spent a decade together helping build one of the NHL's most successful organizations of the salary-cap era.

"As we continue to review our hockey operations this offseason, I'm excited to have Patrik join the team," Botterill said. "He's a three-time Stanley Cup Champion, GM of the Year runner-up and someone I worked with closely for many years in Pittsburgh. I believe Patrik is a great fit to help us build long-term success, bringing an extensive hockey network and many years of leadership to our group."

At 51 years old, Allvin arrives in Seattle after four and a half seasons as General Manager of the Vancouver Canucks. During his tenure from 2022 to 2026, he became the first Swedish-born general manager in NHL history and was named runner-up for the Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award following the 2023-24 season.

His arrival gives the Kraken another experienced voice in the front office as the organization continues searching for sustained success after missing the playoffs in consecutive seasons. Allvin joins Ricky Olczyk, Alexandra Mandrycky and Ryan Jankowski as Seattle's vice presidents and assistant general managers.

Long before becoming an NHL general manager, Allvin built his reputation through scouting.

He began his NHL front-office career with the Montreal Canadiens as a European scout in 2002 before moving to Pittsburgh in 2006. Over the next 16 seasons with the Penguins, Allvin climbed the organizational ladder, serving as European scout, Director of European Scouting and Director of Amateur Scouting before being promoted to Assistant General Manager in 2021. He also briefly served as Pittsburgh's interim general manager that same year.

The connection between Botterill and Allvin runs deep. The two worked side by side in Pittsburgh for a decade, helping the Penguins capture three Stanley Cups, including championships in 2009 and back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017.

Now, they reunite in Seattle with a different challenge ahead of them.

The Kraken are entering a pivotal offseason, looking to return to playoff contention while building a roster capable of competing consistently in the Western Conference. Adding a proven executive with championship experience and a global scouting background signals that Seattle is investing not only in its roster, but in the people tasked with shaping the franchise's future.

For an organization still writing its history, the announcement may prove to be one of the more important moves of the summer.
